What is Biomass?
Biomass is an organic material produced by plants, animals, or microorganisms that can be burned directly as a heat source or converted into a gaseous or liquid fuel. Biomass does not include fossil fuels, which have taken millions of years to evolve. A great environmental advantage of biomass is that when burnt, the amount of CO2 produced is equal to the amount absorbed during the fuels production so is therefore carbon neutral. |
The Boiler
Biomass Boilers can be installed easily as new or to replace your current gas or oil boilers. The boilers burn a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels called biomass e.g. wood chip, wood pellet or cereals. The biomass boiler produces heat for your central heating system and hot water while helping to reduce the impacts on the environment.
Can you combine a biomass boiler with a solar panel?
A solar hot water panel can be easily integrated with your biomass boiler, this means that when there is not enough solar energy to heat your water, the biomass boiler will automatically kick in.
How big is the Boiler? Where will it go?
Biomass boiler can be fitted in the same position as your current boiler, depending on the amount of space. A biomass boiler to heat a 2 to 3 bedroom house or a commercial unit up to 3000sq ft would fit in a 5ft L x 4ft H x 2.5FT W space.
